Focus

2008 was not the best year
I've ever had, either in real life or in writing. But it's over now,
and it's time to move on to 2009 and look at what things I can do
differently. I don't make resolutions, but I do make plans. I will not
say (for instance) that I am going to make a major sale this year,
because that isn't in my hands. The best I can do is plan to submit
material for consideration to major markets, but the acceptance is in
the hands of others. I can't make resolutions -- or plans -- for them.
I can focus on getting the
material to them, though.
That's what this year is
going to be about for me: focus. It's not that I can't finish
projects. I even enjoy editing and rewriting. But I am a busy person,
and somewhere between 'I can get this done' and 'Out the door' something
else will come along that must be done right now and another
thing and another... and the projects eventually make it through the
edit but never go out. I used to send out things all the time, but
somewhere in my busy life, that part of the process got set aside for
later.
It's way past later
now.
Write.
Edit.
Submit.
I can do this. Really.
After I get caught up on
some of the other work. |
