Boards: Post a New Message

Got something to say? It's easy to let us know what's on your mind. Once you're in a forum, you'll see a link at the top of the page, in the tan section above the light blue breadcrumb navigation line: Post

Once you've clicked that, you'll be taken to a page where you can enter what you want to say.

There are four fields to fill out:

Message Type: General is pre-selected for you... you can change this to something more appropriate for your post.

Name: Your name (or hollylisle.com userid) goes here, and will be added for you automatically.

Subject: What your post is about. Titles are limited to 50 characters, including spaces. Be concise.

Message: The body of your post. HollyLisle.com does not censor the use of language. However, if you use profanity in your posts, note this in the header with the use of a rating notice -- either PG, PG-13, or R. Your words are your responsibility -- please remember that we have underage members and take the time to note in your headers any posts which might be inappropriate for younger members.

You may use limited HTML to format your posts. Instructions for using the community form of HTML are in a link to the left of the posting box. You may also take a look at the instructions by clicking this link.

You may add smilies and artwork to your posts.

  • Some of the available smilies are linked on the left in the Smilies lookup table. You may also take a look at these smilies by clicking this link.

  • Additional smilies, plus lots of site artwork, are linked at the bottom of every page in the community from BOARD ART TO ADD TO YOUR POSTS.

You can upload small gifs and jpgs of your own to the boards. File size on these is severely limited -- maximum file size is 20 KB.

Use the Click here to choose your file link.

You'll get the following screen:

image -- upload file form

Click the Browse button to search your hard drive for the file you want to upload. Then choose the type of file you're uploading. Community members rarely upload anything but JPG and GIF files, but you can upload other file formats, too.

Click Upload File!

Your file will upload as an attachment to your post when you post your message -- it will be assigned an arbitrary filename. You'll then be able to use the generated link to add your image file to your signature or posts.

If you'd like to preview your message (to check that you haven't made any egregious blunders, or your HTML is displaying properly), click the "Preview Message" button. Your post will appear, both in the form others will see it in, and below in a message entry box so that you can make any needed corrections. When you're satisfied with the post, click the "Post Message" button to put it up on the board. Clicking "Reset" will clear the Attachment and "Do not use emoticons" fields, and in most browsers will also clear your message. Use it with caution.
