Community Rules: Religious Discussion
The following rules have been put in place to protect all members from harassment, and to keep this neighborhood pleasant for everyone who comes here. If these rules do not suit you, you are welcome to join other communities that are less strict in their implementation of "No Proselytizing" rules, or that don't have any.
First and foremost, we're a writing site. If religious discussions are in that context -- "This is what "A" religion believes, this is where that belief came from, I'm researching this for my book" -- no problem. If religious discussions turn to "What do YOU believe?" you are stepping onto shaky ground.
People on this site have the right to their own beliefs, and to enjoy their own beliefs quietly and personally, whatever those beliefs may be. No one requires any member to sign anything saying that he or she follows or doesn't follow a certain creed before joining.
People may stop any personal conversation about religion simply by saying, "My beliefs are personal and I don't wish to discuss them." If you as a member pursue a personal religious conversation past that point, either in chat or on the boards or in private message on the site, and if the member complains about your continuation of the discussion, sending me documentation of what he said and what you said, you may, at my discretion, be warned or removed from the site, depending on your persistence or attitude.- If your religion is one of those that demands that you try to gain converts, this is not the place to try to gain them. We have a firm NO PROSELYTIZING rule -- this means that you cannot approach any member of the community at any time (including all methods listed in #2, plus using site member lists to gain access to member e-mail addresses) with the intent of trying to convince him to join or consider your religion. You may, if a complaint lodged against you, and the complete exchange is forwarded to me or any of the moderators, be warned or permanently removed from the site for doing so.
If you are concerned about the state of our souls, you're going to have to suffer in silence. This is non-negotiable. Again, then -- WE ARE A WRITING SITE. WE ARE HERE TO WRITE, AND TO TALK ABOUT WRITING. Religion in this neighborhood is an interesting side venue, to be studied for its value as story background and character development, the way one studies insects or botany or grammar and scene construction techniques. Nothing more and nothing less.
- No Truth, (as opposed to truth, which is simply not lying). If you think something, but do not believe that it is an irrevocable Truth cast in stone, and if, when presented with someone else's thoughts, you might find something that would change your mind, you can present your thoughts in that light in appropriate discussions. If, however, you KNOW something, keep it to yourself. Those things which you consider irrevocable Truth -- and those instances where you KNOW you are right -- are not welcome here. Ever. We have had one member removed for attempting to force things she KNEW down the throat of another member. If necessary, we will have more.
