Hello Forward Motion!

I'm completely green when it comes to forums like this and to writers workshops in general.

Like many on here my main hobby is writing. I have completed a novel (circa 100k words) and am working on my second.

The first is a SciFi/Fantasy fusion piece, attempting to be in the mould of Frank Herbert/Steven Erikson/R Scott Bakker.

It is supposed to be a fairly edgy, weighty novel that is driven by the readers emotional engagement with the two lead characters.

I am not sure how successful I've managed to be in that, but I was hoping to see what other people thought about it. I really struggle to find suitable readers where I live and my wife is suspiciously enthusiastic about it.

I am a very keen reader in the ScFi/Fantasy genres as well as in literary fiction, so am looking forward to reviewing and reading some of the work on this board.

Welcome! :)

I'm active here again after a long absence. And I'm more a novelist than a short story writer--and I, too, am in the market for 'first readers'.

But 'weighty' and 'edgy' don't neccesarily ring my chimes. However, if you're a good storyteller like Frank Herbert was, I might be swept into your world--anyway, I'll give you an honest opinion. :).

BTW, don't be suspicious of your wife's enthusiasm. Treasure it!

:)

Thanks for the welcome. I'd be happy to trade reivews. Bear with me if there are special channels and procedure for doing that which I am blissfully unaware of.

I hope I can tell compelling tale like Frank Herbert, but it is all in the eye of the beholder. I am a firm believer that it is that you don't earn the right to do anything else in your novel if you don't take care of the character arcs and develop some emotional connections early on.

Hopefully it is done so people wont even notice the big ideas but will take them in their stride alongside the story.
